§115.01 (10) SCHOOL DAY:

  1. School days are days on which school is actually taught and the following days on which school is not taught:

    1. Days on which school is closed by order of the school district administrator because of inclement weather and days on which parent-teacher conferences are held, not to exceed 5 days during the school term.

    2. Days on which school is closed by order of a local health officer, as defined in §250.01(5)

  2. Not to exceed 5 Saturdays may be counted as school days in any school year when school is taught thereon with the consent of the school board.

§118.38 Waivers:

  • A school district may request the department to waive requirements.

  • Before requesting a waiver, the school board shall hold a public hearing in the school district on the request.

  • The school board shall specify in its request for a waiver its reason for requesting the waiver.

  • A waiver is effective for 4 years.

  • The department shall submit a report to the governor, and to the appropriate standing committees specifying the number of waivers requested under this section, a description of each waiver request, the reason given for each waiver request and the educational and financial effects on the school district of each waiver that was granted.

§120.18(1)(d) The annual report shall contain:

  • The number of school days taught

  • The number of hours of direct pupil instruction provided in each school, by teachers legally qualified to teach

§121.02(1)(f) Each school board shall:

  1. Schedule at least 180 school days annually, less any days during which the state superintendent determines that a school is not held or educational standards are not maintained as the result of a strike by school district employees.

  2. Annually, schedule

    • at least 437 hours of direct pupil instruction in kindergarten

    • at least 1,050 hours of direct pupil instruction in grades 1 to 6

    • at least 1,137 hours of direct pupil instruction in grades 7 to 12

    Scheduled hours under this subdivision include recess and time for pupils to transfer between classes but do not include the lunch period. A school board operating a 4-year old kindergarten program may use up to 87.5 of the scheduled hours for outreach activities.

§121.006(2)(a) State aid withheld: Hold school for least 180 days each year, less any days during which the state superintendent determines that school is not held or educational standards are not maintained as the result of a strike by school district employees, the days to be computed in accordance with §115.01(10).

Employee Strike §121.006(2)(a) Days on which school was not held due to a strike by district employees.

Do not count as an Employee Strike day if pupils received instruction on that day.
School term §115.001(12) "School term" means the time commencing with the first school day and ending with the last school day that the schools of a school district are in operation for attendance of pupils in a school year, other than for the operation of summer classes.
School year §115.001(13) "School year" means the time commencing with July 1 and ending with the next succeeding June 30.
Session §115.001(14) "Session" means the time during a school term that the schools of a school district are operated for the attendance of pupils.
